Five Element Acupuncture and TCM
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine, which has been practiced for over 2000 years. This form of medicine works with the body to create balance and harmony, promoting the smooth flow of energy or Qi (pronounced 'Chee') throughout the body. Free flowing Qi is considered to be essential in promoting health and eliminating dis-ease in the body. This imbalance may be caused by physical or emotional distress, dietary factors, medication or injury.
Classical Five Element acupuncture is based on the understanding of the cyclical nature of the five element cycle, which influences the flow of our vital energy. Our bodies mirror our external environment and follow the five element cycle: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
With the use of very fine sterile needles, Acupuncture works towards bringing the body back into its natural equilibrium through activating Qi via various Acupuncture points, stimulating the body's innate natural healing abilities.

Acupuncture for fertility, pregnancy and postpartum
Acupuncture has been found to increase IVF success rates and greatly improve pregnancy and birth outcomes. It is important to build, nourish, strengthen and prepare both parents for conception as this ultimately determines our child's blueprint/DNA.
Acupuncture is a great way to not only prepare for conception, but to also support the mother through her pregnancy through treating symptoms that may arise as well as strengthening and preparing the mother emotionally and physically for birth. Acupuncture can also support with induction, breech presentation and posterior presentation.
Acupuncture can be incorporated during your birth to help support the natural ebb and flow of labour and be used as a natural form of pain relief.
And finally, for the post-partum period. This is probably one of the most important times for the mother to rebuild her resources and feel supported. It is important to not only treat the physical body, but to support the mother emotionally as well as she transitions into motherhood.
About me
I have a passion and love for ancient Chinese wisdom and have witnessed first hand the power and effectiveness of acupuncture treatment. It was from my own ill health and inquisitive nature that lead me to travel all the way from Australia to the UK to study at the prestigious College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, and I've never looked back. The human body has always amazed me, there is so much more than what meets the eye, and more importantly, I have learnt the significance and importance of treating the whole person on a mind, body, spirit level in order to achieve optimal health. This is exactly what Chinese Medicine offers. I value the significance and importance of treating the body naturally to optimise and enable the body to heal itself. I enjoy supporting and helping people on their journey to health and see a variety of different conditions.
I approach each treatment holistically and in accordance to the individual needs of each person. As well as creating a calm, relaxing and safe space for all of my patients to ensure they feel at ease during their Acupuncture treatment. Each treatment may involve needling, cupping, Gua Sha, bleeding or Moxa.

"Seeking acupuncture treatment for Fatigue, irritability, hot flushes, mood swings and anxiety due to menopause. I have been having fortnightly acupuncture sessions with Abby in the last year or so, and I can truly say that my well-being has transformed completely from being miserable to feeling and looking really well. The anxiety I felt in my stomach finally went away and my energy levels have shifted incredibly. Before discovering acupuncture with Abby I was lost and confused as I never wanted to go on oestrogen replacement therapy because of the side effects associated with it. Abby's capacity to listen, ask the right questions, caring attention to detail, skilful hands, keen intuition and great knowledge of Chinese Medicine are the things I am so grateful to have received. It has been a year of great change for me."

"Abby gave my two year old daughter, Sofia, acupuncture regularly over a period of around three months. This was to treat constipation which had been a fluctuating problem for Sofia since about six months of age. After only a few treatment there was a clear improvement in the frequency of her bowel movements. In addition, Sofia's appetite had increased (she was generally a poor eater) and her energy levels increased. Overall she was a much happier and calmer child. Abby also provided extensive support and advice pertaining to Chinese Medicine, acupressure and diet and nutrition, which I continue to implement to strengthen Sofia's stomach and spleen. To date, her symptoms are much improved and I feel empowered to support Sofia naturally based on Abby's advice and guidance. Thank you Abby!"

FAQs

Acupuncture treatment can vary according to the individual needs of each person but has the potential to support and treat a wide range of conditions. There is much debate among researchers about which conditions acupuncture is most effective at treating. Good acupuncture studies are very difficult to design using the standard Western models, not least because of the fundamental differences between Western and Chinese diagnosis and the fact that, by its very nature, every treatment plan in Chinese medicine is unique to the individual patient.
If you wish to discuss a specific condition, or find out more about whether acupuncture is suitable for you, please contact me.

Each person is unique and therefore the number of treatments required depends on the individual condition being treated, and how long you have had the condition for.
Generally, treatment is once a week to start with and more frequently if the condition is acute. As you improve, you will need to come less often.
Some patients also choose to have regular treatment as a preventative method, to maintain good health.
-
Acupuncture is rarely painful and is usually described as a dull achey, warm or tingling sensation as the needle comes into contact with the body's Qi. Many people are surprised at how relaxing and pain free acupuncture is most of the time!
